High Desert After the dot-bombs, many people lost their retirement savings in the stock market. This was a wake-up call for younger people to take a closer look on how to invest their retirement funds. The self-directed IRA gives people the option to invest his or her retirement funds in other investments like California real estate instead of the stock market.

After reviewing the economic outlook, paper (stocks or mutual funds) retirement may not be the best way to invest retirement funds. As an alternative, the self-directed IRA gives people the opportunity to invest in California real estate. We all the know that California real estate never moves location, typically appreciates and is more secure then stocks or mutual funds.
First let's talk about life cycles. Everything in our universe has a life cycles that start, then end and then starts all over again. Following this concept, we can use prior history to help determine our financial future.

The 1800's ended on a high, then our country went into the down swing of the life cycle. The depression, war and eventually started the up swing in the 1950's through 2000 ending on another high. Without getting into all the reasons on why and how, this life cycle appears to be about 100 years. Based on that idea, we could expect the next 50 years to be the down cycle.

Some leading indicators of this coming down cycle are personal income had dropped, local taxes are increasing, utilities cost are rising which in turn increases all prices. State and City Government are in run away spending mode without any concern for the future. Basically the cost of living is going up and personal income is going down. Then why does the economy appears to be still strong? The answer is easy - CREDIT. People are subsidizing their income with credit cards

People do not understand the cycles of economics, so they will continue working, getting deeper into debt eventually having lower their life style to probably the way people lived in the 1930's. The good news is we can plan for this down swing and hopefully overcome living in poverty.

Because it is real, does not move, appreciates in time, can be improved, reasonable taxed, can be transferred and most people want it. Most other investments are paper only, controlled by others (government), the rules change, constant tax changes and so paper investments can vaporize in a second. Since the downward cycle is coming, land will be a safer investment than paper like 401ks, IRAs, etc.

Wow! This sounds too unreal. Consider this, what if I am right? How do you know? Do some homework yourself. Review you paper investments for the past several years. What if the investment drops in value like the dot bombs? Remember it is just paper. The federal government is also printing more money each year lower the value of the dollar overseas. Then review investing in land. People will always want land.

If you do not agree that is OK. If you interested in investing in land , then you should consider the growth areas. Land down in LA, Orange County and even Riverside County is almost all built, so Victorville California and the surrounding area is the forefront movement of growth in Southern California. I remember as a kid, the surrounding Los Angeles area go from rural land to homes. When I first visited Disneyland, you could see orange trees all around. Today the park is surrounded by hotels, homes and businesses. This is now the most expensive land in Orange County. I should have bought some then.
